At 16 km/10 mi from Gracias, in the department of Lempira, La Campa awaits you on the slope of a hill protected by a line of pine-covered boulders. Thanks to them, the weather tends to be cold.
There you can find the Church of St. Matthias, an impressive work of art, very well preserved, decorated with floral and religious motifs from colonial times.
You get there on a dirt road that is in relatively good condition. This former mining town, originally called Tecauxinas, became a municipality in 1921. The name La Campa is derived from how the miners called the place where they had their campsite.
